This award is offered in loving memory of Dr Ubu Ana, PhD. Ubu was a devoted Christian, kind, generous, compassionate and diligent. Her heart was huge and due to her strong faith in Christ she was committed to being of service to those around her (family, friends, and strangers) which led to her being nicknamed "Mama" by friends from a young age. She completed both her Bachelor and PhD of Materials Engineering at Loughborough University, and went on to work at TWI prior to her death in 2007. She is a much-loved daughter, sister and friend. She passionately worked to encourage black girls and young women to pursue careers in Engineering (where both black people and women remain underrepresented). This award is offered to continue her legacy of service and generosity, to the glory of God.
